Training #1
Design & Implement your First RESTful API with node.js
Tuesday, 5pm–9pm

Dive into APIs in this free workshop which will get you up and running and building your own RESTful APIs using node.js. In addition to discussing the theory behind API design and implementation, we'll actually get our hands dirty and build some APIs from scratch. You will also learn how to leverage existing backend resources such as MySQL and deliver it via an API.

Pre-requisites

  • A laptop with node.js installed.

Training #2
Build your First Mobile App with HTML5, jQuery, PhoneGap and a Backend-as-a-Service
Wednesday, 8:30am–4:30pm

This class will teach you everything you need to build apps that work on (iOS, Android, Windows Phone, Blackberry, mobile browsers, etc.) we will review the important mobile features of HTML5 & JavaScipt. You will learn how to use a mobile UI framework (jQuery Mobile), how to add app features with a Backend-as-a-Service (open-source Usergrid) and how to deploy your app to devices natively using PhoneGap. By the end of the workshop, we will have built a fully-featured app, ready for release on the app store, without having written a single line of server-side code!

Building High-Performance Mobile Apps with HTML5
Thursday, 8:30am–4:30pm

Already know your way around HTML and JavaScript? This class will teach you everything you need to build high-performance apps that look & feel native on iOS, Android, Windows Phone, Blackberry, mobile browsers, etc with API's as a backend. We will review items such as:

  • Building responsive UIs with Twitter Bootstrap
  • PhoneGap tips & tricks, including using/customizing native plugins
  • Engaging users with Push Notifications
  • Analyzing & fixing backend API performance
  • Efficient CSS and other performance tricks
  • Strategies for caching and offline access
  • “Feeling Fast”: non-performance related UI tricks that help smooth your user experience

About the Instructors


 

Greg Rewis

 

Greg Rewis is a Developer Evangelist at Apigee. Greg has been working in the web industry literally since the web was born – he was hand-coding HTML before the table tag was even "invented". His career has taken him around the world, from the early days of desktop publishing, to a start-up in Hamburg, Germany where he helped build one of the first HTML authoring tools, the glory days of the web at Macromedia and finally his role as Principal Evangelist at Adobe prior to joining Apigee. Greg has spoken about web technologies at over 300 industry conferences around the world, as well as being a published author.



Tim speaking at a conference in JapanTim Anglade is a public speaker, former Computer Science lecturer, and Head of Developer Programs at Apigee. Tim has spoken about app development around the world, from OSCON to Oredev & GoGaRuco, and met with mobile app developers from Silicon Valley to Seoul.
