Preparing your body and mind for work outdoors is an important way to healthfully sustain repetitive motions and protect your body from injury. This series of movement workshops for home gardeners and outdoor professionals will teach you to maintain and care for your most important tool, your body.
This course, taught by Mary Kawooya, introduces a dynamic, mat-based workout specifically designed to address the physical needs of gardeners! This 60 -minute workout combines low-impact Pilates mat exercises and gentle stretches to support the body during the long gardening season and to help improve physical stamina throughout the year. Join us while we work towards improving range of motion, toning and lengthening muscles, develop in our own physical awareness, as well as, enhancing movement efficiency!
Celebrating her sixth year of teaching, Mary is excited to share her passion for health and wellness with Lurie’s Garden! Mary’s introduction to Pilates began as a complement to her early dance training. By 2008, Mary obtained a classical, comprehensive, teaching certification with Power Pilates. Ever since, she has been teaching Pilates and Dance throughout the Chicagoland area. Mary’s academic and experiential knowledge of anatomy and kinesiology can be seen in her ability to share a safe, anatomical approach to fitness through Pilates. Always keeping up-to-date through continuing professional education, Mary maintains a current teaching certification and membership with Pilates Method Alliance (PMA).
