Join professional photographers & workshop instructors Joseph Roybal & Dan Ballard for a 10 day photographic experience touring & photographing Paris & the French Alps. The focus of this workshop will be to help you achieve your ultimate goals in photography and to capture stunning city & landscape images, as well as allowing you to immerse yourself in the French culture, history & cuisine.
Josesph - now based out of Denver, CO considers France to be his home-away-from-home, having lived there for over 2 years. He spent his time there teaching, learning the culture, the language and immersing himself in the day to day lives of the Parisians and the French. He speaks fluent French and has traveled the country extensively. While in France, Joseph instructed and guided professionally for one of America's leading outdoor adventure companies. His vast knowledge and expertise of France will help make this workshop an unforgettable experience.
We will begin our trip in the gorgeous and romantic City of Lights ~ Paris. We will spend 2 days visiting & photographing historic landmarks & museums such as the Eiffel Tower, Arc de Triomphe, the Louvre, Musee d' Orsay & the Tuileries Garden. We will visit vibrant neighborhoods such as the Marais, Latin Quarter and Montmartre. We'll enjoy the French cuisine where you'll find that every establishment prides itself on exquisite preparation and presentation of quality produce, invariably served with wine. Enticing patisseries, boulangeries (bakeries), fromageries (cheese shops) and crowded, colorful street markets will entice us.
From there we will travel by train to the beautiful town of Chamonix which is located in the pristine and dramatic French alps where we will spend 1 night in a chalet.
Our next destination is Lac Blanc (accessed via cable car & a 1.5 hour moderate hike from Chamonix) - It is one of the most gorgeous areas in the world! We will have the privilege of staying at the highly sought after staffed Lac Blanc Refuge (2 days) with it's stunning views over the adjacent lake. This area offers incredible sunrises & sunsets and is a photographers paradise.
From there it is back to Chamonix for a couple of days rest at the chalet & enjoying what is considered the "European capital of extreme adventure sports".
Annecy (via train) is our next adventure. Annecy (1 day) is one of Frances hidden gems of a city. It is a town in the Rhone-Alpes region of southeast France that’s replete with castles and cathedrals and softly curving architecture. It sits on Lake Annecy - one of the cleanest lakes in the world. Annecy is sometimes called the little Venice because of it's canals & waterways. While there we will take in a farmers market where we can purchase vegetables & fresh cheese.
Our last train ride will take us back to Paris for one final evening with our group. We will spend the evening saying goodbye & sharing our favorite stories from the trip.
This Expedition is open to all skill levels and we welcome everyone to join!
This Expedtion will begin in Paris. After checking in with a group meet & greet, you will have a chance to explore the city, enjoying the smell of an afternoon rain shower, patisserie and Parisiennes in their daily routine. This first evening we will dine as a group and head to bed early getting ready for the rest of the trip. The remaining days in Paris will be filled with photographic outings and social group outings before leaving for Chamonix.
Chamonix: Arrive and spend our first afternoon and evening admiring the towering peaks and exploring this amazing village. We will dine as a group in our Chalet and get to bed early to be ready to head out the following day to Lac Blanc. This will be mostly a free day with dinner and getting to know the group as planned events. We will be able to securely store unneeded gear at our Chalet over the nights while in Lac Blanc.
Information on Chamonix and the surrounding area can be found by visiting this link here.
Lac Blanc: Two sunrise and Two sunset photographic opportunities. We will be staying at the Refuge de Lac Blanc that is staffed with breakfast and dinner provided. Please note: this location ONLY has dormitory style rooms. No single or private accomodations are available; however, Dan and myself will make every effort possible to organize our group into same-sex rooms along with group members.
Then back to Chamonix for a couple of days rest at the chalet.
Annecy (One day): Relax in the city and catch a farmer's market buying produce, cheese, etc. We can photograph the town during the day and evening based on interest.
Paris: On our last evening we will have a send-off dinner overviewing the highlights, comments and thoughts on the workshop. This will be a totally free evening for everyone to do as they wish before we all head home.
Most locations we will be shooting will be easily accessed with very little hiking involved. NOTE: accessing Lac Blanc will require an approx. 1.5 hour mild hike each way beyond the cable car at altitude. PLEASE contact either myself or Dan with any questions regarding this. Sturdy hiking shoes with good ankle support are required.
