Event Details

A tennis invitational and cocktail party featuring contemporary artists, curators, critics, gallerists on the courts.  This event celebrates and supports Bodies and Shadows: Caravaggio and His Legacy currently on view at LACMA, a FRAME member museum. Caravaggio was one of the most influential and controversial painters in Europe circa 1600. His works blazed a trail for modernity in painting, as he is credited with the birth of realism, with a proto-cinematic style, and is widely regarded as the original "bad boy"artist.

Caravaggio was an avid tennis player with a violent streak (which we do not encourage). An early published notice from 1604 reported: "after a fortnight's work he will swagger about for a month or two with a sword at his side and a servant following him, from one ball-court to the next, ever ready to engage in a fight or an argument, so that it is most awkward to get along with him."

Our event will be held at the historic Los Angeles Tennis Club in Hancock Park, known as "Home of the Champions," where legends Fred Perry, Arthur Ashe, Billy Jean King, John McEnroe, among others were crowned.
