Fourth Annual Cardiovascular Synposium

Purpose:  The symposium will provide practitioners with clinically relevant information and state-of-the-art treatment options on cardiovascular diseases that will enhance knowledge and performance and promote patient care.  These topics will address practice gaps and integrate evidence-based information.

 

Objectives:  At the end of this program, the participants should be able to: 

Session I

  • Examine the evidence base for statins in primary prevention of CAD
  • Identify the optimal targets for LDLc and optimal dosing of statins in the secondary prevention of CAD
  • Describe common and serious side effects to be aware of when prescribing statin therapy

Session II

  • Describe the development of current CPR guidelines
  • Recognize indications and appropriate procedures performed as a part of the sports physical
  • Review current data regarding interventions and care for the post-resuscitated patient

Lunch Session

  • Describe the state of healthcare in the U.S.
  • Review the Affordable Care Act and where we stand with the enactment
  • Identify keys to success under healthcare reform 

 Session III

  • Review the management of hypertensive emergencies
  • Review the acute management of stroke
  • Review acute limb ischemia and its management

Optional Sessions

  • Listen to normal, unique and distinct heart sounds that provide auditory data regarding the condition of the heart
  • Illustrate clinical case studies in cardiology
