Event Details

Join IF University and the University of Louisville's Lee Dugatkin for a fast-moving, animated, and richly illustrated discussion of evolution on earth -- experience four billion years of evolution in 60 minutes. From early RNA-based life billions of years ago to complex societies in humans and nonhumans, evolution by natural selection has been the primary driver of the diversity of life on earth. The beauty of life is only enriched by our deeper understanding of how all this happened. Come and learn why.

Facilitator: Dr. Lee Dugatkin is Distinguished University Scholar at the University of Louisville. He was a featured speaker at the 2008 and 2010 IdeaFestivals. He has presented talks on evolution all over the world, including England, Taiwan, the Czech Republic, Switzerland, Norway, Denmark, Sweden, Finland, Canada and Mexico. He has also lectured at the American Museum of Natural History, The Smithsonian Institute and Thomas Jefferson’s historic home at Monticello, among other US locations.

This presentation is free and open to the public, courtesy of the IdeaFestival and the Gheens Science Hall and Rauch Planetarium at the University of Louisville.

Immediately following this presentation, IF University participants are invited to stay for the monthly "Skies Over Louisville" program and telescope viewing party at the Planetarium. Cost of tickets for "Skies Over Louisville" are $8.00 for adults, $6.00 for children 12 and under, Seniors 65+, and UofL affiliates with a valid UofL ID card.
