Lectures will include comparisons to China and Japan:

  • Major contemporary issues in East Asia with a focus on the Koreas
  • Korean art, history, language, literature, martial arts, music, philosophy and religion
  • K-12thCommon Core State Standards and Advanced Placement History/SocialScience lessons
  • Coverage of Asian American history and the Korean American Experience
  • Deepen understanding of Korean American students and their families
  • Korean poetry (Sijo), short stories, and literature
  • Free books and resources for K-12 public/private school educators and more than 25 PowerPoint lectures. Free parking and lunch each day.

 

Korean Cultural Activities:

  • Enjoy delicious Korean food and cooking class in Koreatown
  • Learn about films for classrooms
  • Observe student music and dance performances and experience a lesson on the Korean drums
  • Watch K-POP performance
  • Experience Taekwondo demo lesson and self-defense techniques
  • Create Korean folk art, craft a Korean kite and learn how to make Korean wrapping cloths

  • See a traditional and contemporary Korean HanbokShow

National Korean Studies Seminar

 The National Korean Studies Seminar is being organized in 2014 by Sung Kim and Mary Connor who have carried out more than 100 days of workshops for ten years throughout the United States. They have also created many lessons and nearly 33 Power Point lectures, published over 25 articles on Korean history and culture in leading journals and recruited educators to participate in workshops from coast to coast. Both organizers have received awards from the Republic of South Korea and national organizations within the United States.
