Build It Green and The Energy Network present the Appraisal Institute’s green appraisal training series:

  • Introduction to Green Buildings: Principles & Concepts
    Online, on-demand | Course access is available for up to 30 days
     
  • Case Studies in Appraising Green Residential Buildings
    Aug. 25, Orange County Association of Realtors, 25552 La Paz Road, Laguna Hills, CA
     
  • Residential and Commercial Valuation of Solar (First time offered in California!)
    Sept. 3-4, The Hills Hotel, 25205 La Paz Road, Laguna Hills, CA
     
*Participants agree to take the exam associated with each training. Those who pass all the exams must also complete the registration process to get listed on the Appraisal Institute’s Valuation of Sustainable Building professional development registry.

You must be a licensed Appraiser and be available to take all three (3) courses. You do not need to be a member of Appraisal Institute to take the courses.

Introduction to Green Buildings: Principles & Concepts
Online, on-demand | Course access is available for up to 30 days
 
The Appraisal Institute’s introductory course focuses on the evolution of green buildings, the concept of sustainability in buildings, and the principles, practices, and components that distinguish sustainable from traditional buildings. 
 
Exam
Individuals who complete the online training can then register to take the exam. The exam must be taken in-person at a training facility approved by the Appraisal Institute. You will also have the option to take this exam at the Case Studies in Appraising Green Residential Buildings or Residential and Commercial Valuation of Solar classes.
 
Continuing Education Credits
Appraisal Institute: 8 (including 1-hour exam)
State of California: 7 (state code 10754C217)
 
Course Registration
To bypass payment for this course, Build It Green must submit your registration request to the Appraisal Institute for processing. In approximately seven (7) business days you should receive an email from Appraisal Institute with a link to access the online course.

Case Studies in Appraising Green Residential Buildings
Aug. 25 | Orange County Association of Realtors, 25552 La Paz Road, Laguna Hills, CA 92653
 
This one-day course introduces participants to valuation methods for appraising the high performance house. Participants learn the appraisal procedures for valuing green residential properties to assist in supporting an opinion of value. The course focuses on the valuation process in different appraisal problems encountered in appraising green properties. The valuation process is examined as it applies in each of the three approaches to value.
 
Exam
Individuals who complete the training will take a closed-book exam at the end of the training. You also have the option to take the exam for the Introduction to Green Buildings: Principles & Concepts online course at this training.

Residential and Commercial Valuation of Solar
Sept. 3-4 | The Hills Hotel, 25205 La Paz Road, Laguna Hills, CA 92653
 
This hands-on course introduces you to solar terminology, and through real-life examples and case studies, on both residential and commercial properties, shows you how to solve solar-related valuation problems. This course will focus on solar PV most commonly encountered in commercial and residential appraisal/consulting assignments.
 
Exam
Individuals who complete the training will take a closed-book exam at the end of the training. You also have the option of taking the exam for the Introduction to Green Buildings: Principles & Concepts online course. 
 
Continuing Education Credits
Appraisal Institute: 15 (including 1-hour exam)
State of California: 14 (state code 754601028)

Registry Listings and Requirements
 
If you take all three classes and pass the exams you will be listed on the Appraisal Institute’s Residential Registry. You do not need to be a member of the Appraisal Institute to be eligible for listing on the registry. Completing BOTH Introduction to Green Buildings: Principles & Concepts and Case Studies in Appraising Green Residential Buildings satisfies the Advanced Continuing Education (ACE) requirement for SRA and RM Designated members and residential Candidates and Practicing Affiliates.

Registration closes August 14th at 8am. To allow enough time to attend the online course: Introduction to Green Building Principles, we will close registration 10 days prior to the training.
