Following for Fellas: The Bay Edition
Sunday, April 7, 2013 from 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM
San Francisco, California
London, United Kingdom
A 3 hour workshop for individuals who usually lead in blues and fusion dance, who are interested in learning how to follow.
Learning relative tone, intention in following, and how leading can inform your following are goals that are included in this class. Balance, connection, and posture are some of the fundamentals we will focus on. Discussions about trust, confidence, and feminism (for everyone!) will be interspersed with skill building. We will also cover isolations, body awareness, and how to switch between lead and follow.
This is a partnered dance event (but no partner is required to attend), and it's based in blues, but will include elements of swing, tango, and hip hop.
No prior experience is required. This all levels class will be have basics for beginners who are new to following, but will contain concepts and theories that are helpful for all levels of dancers. Modifications on the exercises are available for more advanced dancers because inclusiveness is really important. :-)
*No one will be turned away for financial reasons. Please contact Reeva Bradley to inquire about volunteering options or food bartering. ;)
Are you primarily a follow? OR a female identified person who is interested in learning how to lead? Check out this complimentary event by Jasmine Herrick!
When & Where
This workshop will grow and expand your skills for dancing with micro-movement. We’ll work with breath, making our movements precise and clear for our partner, and applying rhythmic variation in isolations to make musical interpretation effortless.
