Follow the Milk: From Dutch Hollow Farm to Beecher's Handmade Cheese
Wednesday, May 23, 2012 from 8:00 AM to 6:45 PM (EDT)
New York, NY
When you shop at your neighborhood farmers market or pick up your share from your CSA, you know exactly where your food is coming from and who grew or raised it. But what about your farm-to-table restaurant or independent retailer? Are they just throwing on a local label or the name of a farm they may or may not be ordering from, or are they the real deal?
Since 2002, Beecher’s Handmade Cheese has made a commitment to quality, craft, and the small farmer by making all of their products onsite and sourcing their ingredients locally.
Join Melissa Danielle, Good Food Coach, on this daylong adventure into New York’s farm country where you’ll meet one of the farmers who supply Beecher’s Handmade Cheese with the milk that becomes their Flagship, Just Jack, Marco Polo, and No Woman Cheeses.
We’ll be taking the VROOM Bus, an eco-friendly cooperatively managed bus up to Dutch Hollow Farm where we’ll walk the farm and learn about the milking process. After lunch, we’ll head back to the city to tour Beecher’s facilities and see cheesemaking in action.
Please wear comfortable clothing and shoes you won’t mind getting dirty.
You can bring your own lunch or support a local business near the farm.
The fee includes roundtrip transportation, tour, and light snacks.
