To help you better understand the process used behind creating these new FIRMs, what and where the changes are occurring and the cost-saving options that are available, FEMA is holding a series of stakeholder workshops. Discussion topics will include what to say and what you can do to help clients who have been newly mapped into a higher-risk or lower-risk zone or when the Base Flood Elevation (BFE) changes. Information about the NFIP Reform of 2012, available agent training, and new tools and resources to guide your clients through insurance options will also be discussed.

Greater New Orleans Flood Risk Update
Building on the U.S. Army Corps of Engineer (USACE) achievements in flood risk reduction made through the construction and rehabilitation of the Hurricane And Storm Damage Risk Reduction System (HSDRRS), FEMA in cooperation with the USACE has determined the flood risk in and around the HSDRRS improvements. This analysis was used to update current preliminary Flood Insurance Rate Maps in the vicinity of the levee system.
With updated maps, communities in the Greater New Orleans area –Orleans, St. Bernard, Jefferson, Plaquemines and St. Charles parishes will have more precise information about the flood risk in their vicinity and will be better able to make more informed decisions to reduce their personal risk to life and property.
FEMA is sharing information about the preliminary Flood Insurance Rate Maps with the communities through a series of Public Open Houses and Stakeholder Workshops.
