Flight 3407 Memorial Walk
Friday, February 12, 2010 from 9:30 AM to 2:00 PM (EST)
Clarence Center, NY
In honor of the victims of Continental Flight 3407 who did not get to finish their journey to the Buffalo International Airport, the Families of Flight 3407 have decided to complete their journey. We will walk on February 12 to remember the 51 souls that we lost, with the determination that this should never happen to another family.
You are invited to walk in 1 of 3 legs: 10 miles (starting at Long St), 4.2 miles (starting at West Herr at Main and Transit) or 1 mile (starting at the Holiday Inn on Genesee next to the airport).
Please arrive at the following departure locations at the times indicated. Parking will be available at each location. You will need to check in. You do not need a ticket.
Long Street: 9:00am (meet at Clarence Center Fire Hall)
West Herr: 11:30am
Holiday Inn: 1:15pm
Long St. - Clarence Center Rd. - Goodrich Rd. - Main St. - Transit Rd. - Genesee St.
We will have scheduled stops at West Herr (8129 Main Street, Clarence) and the Holiday Inn (4600 Genesee Street, Cheektowaga)
There will be additional rest stops available as needed. These are not scheduled stops, however you may take advantage of these locations to use restrooms, warm up, and get refreshments. Rest stops are available at the Clarence Town Hall, Arthur’s Coffee, Harris Hill Fire Hall, Quaker Steak and Lube, Dunkin Donuts.
West Herr has offered to provide warming vans to follow the walk route. At any point, if you are unable to continue walking, or you need a break from the cold, you will be able to use one of the vans. We need to stay together as a group, so if you are having a difficult time keeping up, you can also take advantage of the vans. We will also have a police escort and medical vehicles for your safety.
A shuttle back to your car will be available from the airport. There is NO COST for the shuttle. A special thanks to West Herr for the generous donation.
Reception at Airport
Salvatore’s will be providing tents and refreshments at the airport for walkers. Upon arrival to the airport, we will walk to the tents and have a moment of remembrance.
The families of Flight 3407 cannot express our gratitude for your support. We will walk with you on Friday to remember each life lost last February 12, and to fight for the safety of every person who steps on an airplane. Joining us on our Walk to Complete the Journey will be Jeff Skiles, copilot of the miracle on the Hudson, Congressman Chris Lee, and several first responders.
Our deepest thanks,
Families of Flight 3407
