John Byers served as President/Chief Executive Officer of FPIC Insurance Group, Inc. from 2000 through 2011. FPIC is a publicly traded insurance holding company headquartered in Jacksonville, Florida and one of the leading writers of medical professional liability insurance in the country. Under John’s leadership, FPIC was acquired by The Doctors Company, the largest writer of physician medical professional liability insurance in the country. FPIC overcame significant business challenges to achieve substantial, sustained financial and operational success, while being recognized for its culture of integrity and ethical business practices. Prior to joining FPIC, John practiced law for eighteen years, specializing in corporate, mergers and acquisitions, securities and governance matters. Among John’s honors are 2011 Distinguished Business Leader of the Year by the University of North Florida Coggin College of Business, Ultimate CEO from the Jacksonville Business Journal in 2011, and Ernst & Young Florida Entrepreneur of the Year in the financial services category in 2007. John graduated from Clemson University in 1977 with high honors and received his Juris Doctorate degree from Vanderbilt University in 1980.
