Description

Please join me and other Columbia Business School alumni as Luis Sanz '10 shares his frank insights on building and selling a successful startup.

Sanz started Olapic along with Pau Sabria '10 & Jose De Cabo '10 during their studies. They were accepted into the Lang Entrepreneurship Center's Greenhouse program and sold their startup for $130M last month after receiving $21M in funding from investors such as Unilever Ventures and the Lang Fund. Here is a Venture Beat article about the acquisition.

This will be the first time any of the Olapic founders will be sitting down for a fireside chat post acquisition. He is usually based in New York City but is visiting Olapic's Silicon Valley office which was opened after acquiring a local startup earlier this year.

During my own studies I had the opportunity to get to meet Sanz and his cofounders via the Venture Capital Investment Competition. I've gotten to know him personally since then. In addition to being a successful entrepreneur and technology visionary he's been an incredible advisor and investor in my own startup. Please RSVP for exact address details.

Luis Sanz's Background

Based in Olapic’s New York headquarters, Sanz serves two roles as Chief Operating Officer and as the head of technology and product development. Sanz’s deep technical background fueled the development of Olapic’s proprietary predictive algorithm, Photorank™ that analyzes more than 27 different aspect of an image to determine the likelihood an image has to trigger a purchase. Raised in Zaragoza, Spain, Sanz earned a Master’s Degree in electrical engineering from University of Zaragoza, completing a thesis in Active Noise Control using Machine Learning. Sanz also holds an MBA from Columbia University in New York, where he co-founded Olapic in 2010. Prior to founding Olapic, Sanz was a consultant for Accenture, working for aerospace/defense projects in Europe and also worked for Ericsson across Europe, Africa and the Middle East. Sanz and his Olapic co-founders have been recognized with several awards including the Emmanuel Lang Award for Entrepreneurship and the E-cademy Award. Sanz is sought after by media and conferences for his expertise in image recognition and digital imaging technologies.
