STAR Sharing Treatment and Autism Resources

This presentation will help caregivers understand the ups and downs of taking care of a loved one.

Presenter:  Diane Bark, Parent and Caregiver Advocate

Mrs. Bark is Chair of the Board of NF Mid-Atlantic, a non-profit organization that helps those suffering with the genetic disorder Neurofibromatosis in the areas of awareness, education and support. She currently volunteers as a Parent Advocate at Project Heal, a non-profit organization affiliated with Johns Hopkins Hospital/Kennedy Krieger, helping low income families advocate for special needs children in the educational process. Mrs. Bark also works full time as a Financial Advisor in her own business.

It has become her passion to help and support parents who are struggling to care for their special needs children in the educational and medical arenas. Mrs. Bark's mission is to share her story as a caregiver for her mother, husband and son with others so they know they are not alone in their journey.

Mrs. Bark is currently attending UCLA's Certificate Program for Patient Advocacy and hopes to one day work in a hospital setting helping low income single parents with their challenged children.

Audience:  Parents, family members and professionals

The Center for Autism and Related Disorders (CARD) at Kennedy Krieger Institute in Baltimore, Maryland

The Center for Autism and Related Disorders (CARD) at Kennedy Krieger Institute is a multifaceted, interdisciplinary program serving children with autism spectrum disorders (ASD), their families, and professionals in the community. We base our services and trainings on evidenced-based practices. One of our major endeavors is to develop new models of effective care that can be distributed to families and care providers on a national and international level.

Sharing Treatment and Autism Resources (STAR) trainings provide professionals, parents, and family members of children diagnosed with autism spectrum disorders (ASD) with a comprehensive offering of current resources available on autism, as well as an overview of research-based treatment elements that have been recommended for program design and delivery in the educational system(s).
