PROGRAM DESCRIPTION AND TARGET AUDIENCE
Asthma is a leading chronic illness among children in the United States. In fact, over seven million American children under the age of 18 years suffer from asthma¹. Locally, over 525,000 Missouri residents live with asthma². A significant need exists for greater control as one in ten school-age children have asthma. Children afflicted with this disease miss over ten million school days each year for asthma-related problems¹.

Springfield Public Schools, in conjunction with Jordan Valley Community Health Center, Cox College and Mercy Children’s Hospital Springfield is pleased to present a day of practical childhood asthma education. Various aspects of the disease will be discussed to assist health care providers develop strategies in providing appropriate care and management, improving overall clinical care and outcomes of children with asthma. 

This conference is designed for physicians, physician assistants, nurse practitioners, nurses, respiratory therapists and all other health care professionals responsible for childhood asthma management.

  • Explore the common indoor environmental contaminants that exacerbate asthma symptoms and which contaminant represents significant risk to asthma patients.
  • Describe specific techniques for identifying indoor environmental hazards and effective interventions to eliminate or reduce these hazards in homes.

  • Examine structural determinants of asthma management inequities in African American adolescents.
  • Describe the socio-cultural discourses used by adolescents and other stakeholders that contest existing assumptions about asthma management inequities.
  • Identify policy opportunities for mitigating the impacts of asthma management inequities on socially disadvantaged populations.

Registrations will NOT be accepted April 27 – May 3. Registrations at the door will be processed; a late fee of $10 will be charged in addition to the registration fee.

CoxHealth is not responsible for travel, hotel, booking fees, or other cancellation fees for registrants when an activity is cancelled.

All refunds must be received in writing via email or by calling the Education Center.
