Film Screening & Discussion
An evening building bridges between the past and the present in Vietnam starting with the screening of Phu-Nu Viet-Nam, Femmes Vietnamiennes by Pierre Sénélas (1993, 52 min.. In French) followed by a panel discussion (in English) with Monique Brinson Demery, author of "Finding the Dragon Lady: The Mystery of Vietnam's Madame Nhu", and Nora Taylor from School of Art Institute of Chicago. A cocktail with Vietnamese specialties and a book sale and signing with Monique Demery will close the evening.

Monique Brinson Demery took her first trip to Vietnam in 1997 as part of a study abroad program with Hobart and William Smith Colleges. She was the recipient of a US Department of Education grant to attend the Vietnamese Advanced Summer Institute in Hanoi, and in 2003, she received a Masters degree in East Asia Regional Studies from Harvard University. Demery’s initial interviews with Madame Nhu in 2005 were the first time Madame Nhu had spoken to Western press in nearly twenty years. Demery lives in Chicago.
