The Chief Investment Strategist for East End Wealth Management, Gene Balas, CFA, will discuss the consumers' plight in a tough economy.
As the Chief Investment Strategist for East End Wealth Management he forecasts economic conditions to develop investment strategy to manage fixed income and multi-asset portfolios. He also currently writes for TheStreet’s RealMoney site, where he has authored over one thousand articles over the past three years offering his insights, analysis and opinions on global economics. He will also soon be writing about global economics for another financial website as well as authoring a weekly subscription newsletter on global economics.
Previously he was Director of Investments at Genworth Financial Asset Management. In that role, he performed forecasts on macroeconomic conditions and determined the influences of thematic drivers to determine investment strategy and manage $6 billion in assets. Prior to GFAM, Gene was Director, Investment Management & Guidance at Merrill Lynch & Co. There he led the asset allocation strategy and investment policy team for Merrill’s Institutional Consulting Group, which supervises about $350 billion in assets.
In previous roles he headed the investment manager due diligence and asset allocation strategy functions at several firms, creating investment management units at a pension consultancy and a regional brokerage. He began his career in 1989 at Oppenheimer & Co. He is a Chartered Financial Analyst.
He has a MBA in Finance from Columbia Business School and a BBA in Finance from the University of Houston.
