Mardi Gras, Fat Tuesday, the Eve of Lent... where did it come from? What is the purpose of this day? Is the Eve of Lent even a religious event? Come and join us for a presentation by Fr. Gary Secor on the history of this day and a discussion surrounding the questions above to get us ready for this year's season of Lent.
Fr. Gary Secor is the Vicar General for the Diocese of Honolulu. Fr. Gary was born and raised on Oahu. He attended St. Anthony of Padua School, Maryknoll High School, Chaminade College, and St. Stephen's Seminary. He also studied at St. Patrick's Seminary in Menlo Park, CA. Fr. Gary was ordained by Bishop John Scanlan April 13, 1977. Since then Fr. Gary has served in several capacities at the parish and diocesan level. His longest assignment was as pastor at St. John Apostle & Evangelist Parish in Mililani. Fr. Gary is probably most known for his role with the Basic Christian Community in Hawaii (BCC). He and Sr. Mary Jo McEnany, OSB serve as spiritual directors to the BCC.
