First of Two Spring FES Lectures:

Founder of MarketWatch & Creator of CBS March Madness on Demand, Larry Kramer, to Speak March 31 on Entrepreneurial Initiatives within Existing Companies

All programs are held at Gordan Student Center at Onondaga Community College.  All lectures begin at 5:00 pm; doors open 30 minutes prior to each program.  Parking is available at OCC in lot 13.  A reception and interactive dialoge with the speaker  will take place following each lecture.  All attendees are welcome.

In today’s competitive economy, individuals at successful companies are thinking entrepreneurially to increase revenue and solve challenges. That’s exactly what Syracuse University Alum and digital media innovator Larry Kramer has done throughout his career. The Famous Entrepreneurs Series will host Larry Kramer on March 31st, at Onondaga Community College, as he shares how collaborative partnerships, incubating new ideas, and embracing emerging media can bring new energy to Central New York companies.

“I became entrepreneurial later in my career, and I’ll share my personal experiences with bringing fresh ideas into a corporate structure. In my opinion, the more entrepreneurial you can be inside a company, the more successful the company – and you – will be,” said Kramer.

As President of CBS Digital Media, Kramer expanded the CBS empire with online, interactive, and wireless innovations including websites like CBS.com and March Madness on Demand (the online broadcast of the NCAA Basketball Tournament). Kramer will give a behind-the-scenes look at the early days of streaming the Tournament on CBS Sportsline – perfect timing as his talk occurs during March Madness! Prior to CBS, Kramer was Chairman,CEO, and Founder of MarketWatch, Inc. (Nasdaq: MKTW), which Dow Jones bought for $528 million in January 2005.

Today, Kramer is a media consultant, Adjunct Professor of Media Management at Newhouse, sits on the board of directors for companies such as Discovery Communications and American Media, and is the author the author of C-Scape: Conquer the Forces Changing Business Today, which addresses how companies can survive – and thrive – in the fast-paced, ever-changing media landscape. He suggests companies should act more like fluid start-ups instead of relying on rigid business models. Kramer will share strategies for adapting to – instead of avoiding – the forces changing business today.

“Many entrepreneurial initiatives today are taking place in the communications realm, because of the interactive ‘revolution.’ Individuals have more control over getting information they want – and avoiding what they don’t. To succeed, companies need to find effective ways of sharing information and connecting with their customers – which I’ll focus on in my talk on March 31st.”

In addition to Larry Kramer, Famous Entrepreneurs Series will host another innovative thought leader on May 17th. Details to come shortly about this exciting upcoming event!
