New series for visitors ages 5-12

Introducing Family Sundays, a new afternoon affair for tots, tikes, and tweens, ages 5-12, the first Sunday of the month. Each Family Sunday will include:

+Short 20 minute tours
+Story time in the Hull-House Museum library and book sales
+Activities and crafts for families connected to monthly theme

In support of working families at the turn of the 20th century, the Hull-House Settlement engaged children in groundbreaking programs, clubs and activities in addition to opening the city's first public playground and kindergarten. The Hull-House reformers along with progressive educators like John Dewey and Maria Montessori re-framed childhood, emphasizing children's agency, experience, and play. Become part of this radical history at the Hull-House museum's Family Sundays series.

May 4 | June 1 | June 29* | August 3 | September 7

Family Sundays kick off on May 4 with "Family Sunday: Home"

Tours, crafts and activities will explore the many ideas and meanings we have about home. May Family Sunday also celebrates the Jane Addams Children's Book Awards. First awarded in 1953, the Jane Addams Children's Book Awards honor exemplary children's literature that most effectively promote peace, social justice, world community, and gender and racial equality to young readers. Family Sunday: Home will honor the Jane Addams Peace Association Children's book award winners, past and present. The Women's International League for Peace and Freedom (WILPF) - Madison, Wisconsin and Des Moines, Iowa Branches are co-presenters of May Family Sunday.
