Update on Glaucoma Diagnosis and Treatment:

We will review the basic ocular anatomy involved in glaucoma and the different types of glaucoma seen in our veterinary patients. Current ocular glaucoma pharmacology and patient management will be reviewed.

Ocular Manifestations of Systemic Diseases:

We will review systemic causes of conjunctivitis, corneal disease, uveitis and retinal disease in our canine and feline patients.

12:45 to 2:45 pm:  Focused Assessment with Sonography for Trauma, Treatment, and Triage

The case-based lecture time will focus on the practical use of ultrasound in a variety of meaningful clinical scenarios that both the emergency veterinarian and general practitioner face on a regular basis; and its comparison to abdominal and thoracic radiography.  We will cover the applications of abdominal and thoracic FAST(TT) examinations (Focused Assessment with Sonography for Trauma, Treatment, and Triage) in a manner that makes these examinations clinically relevant including medical record documentation.   Cases will include blunt and pentrating trauma as well as non-trauma subsets of patients including anaphylaxis, pleural and pericardial effusions, post-op bleeders (OHE), peritonitis suspects and much more.

3:00 to 5:00 pm:  Leptospirosis - Diagnosis, Pathogenesis, Treatment, Prevention, Case Studies, and Literature Review

Dr. Gayle Millard has over 20 years of clinical experience in companion animal, large animal, and emergency practices.  She is currently the Merial Senior Technical Services Veterinarian serving the Tex-Mex District (Central and West Texas, the Rio Grande River Valley, Southern and Eastern New Mexico).  Her professional interests include Veterinary Practice Management, specifically Communication in Veterinary Medicine.  She joined Merial, LTD as a Technical Services Veterinarian serving the Delta District (Arkansas, parts of Tennessee, Missouri, Mississippi, Louisiana, Kentucky, and Oklahoma) in 2005, and transferred to her current position in San Antonio in 2007.  Dr. Millard has spoken nationally and internationally on osteoarthritis, pain management, heartworm disease, flea and tick biology, vaccinology, communications, and practice management.
