BIO:
David Boudreau was born in Lyn, Massachusetts on August 26, 1969. After moving back with his parents to Nova Scotia, Canada in 1974, David’s interest in drawing started at a very early age and was inherited from his father, Frank Boudreau, a well known Nova Scotia artist in Canada.

In 1987, David moved to Toronto, Ontario and enrolled in a 3 year Classical Animation Program offered at Sheridan College. Since graduating in 1991 and throughout the past 21 years of his career, David has had quite a successful career as an animator, character designer and story board artist at various feature animation and television studios such as DreamWorks Feature Animation, Warner Bros. Feature animation and Nelavana Productions, Inc.

David is currently doing freelance character design for two features in development and is also in the process of publishing a book of his own artwork

Artist Statement: I've always loved the human face. The character, expressions and how each one is unique. I started traditionally drawing portraits back in High school of my friends and their boyfriends or girlfriends or whoever they were dating at the time to make some extra cash on the side. It kept me busy because they would start dating someone new and have to do an entirely new drawing. That was really the last time I drew any portraits of that nature.

Over the past 25 years I've been an animator and drawing faces of characters that I've animated, which were a much more simplified compared to realistic rendered faces. It wasn't until 2010 that I started drawing portraits or should I say caricatures. I sort of fell into it and seemed to have a knack for it, but more importantly I really found a new love of my art separate from my studio work. It's my new passion. How it came about was that most of the studios were working digitally, using programs such as photoshop (which I knew nothing about). So I figured what will motivate me to learn the program and have fun at the same time. Well the rest is history.

I've been painting digitally now over the past three years and have been working hard at honing my skills and now, as it turns out, have a huge fan base all over the world in many different countries. My process working digitally is very much as I would paint traditionally. I do NOT let the computer do the work for me... every brush stroke has been painted or drawn by me. It's just simply a different medium or tool and of course , do not have to wait for the paint to dry. :)

My hope in the future is to go back to my traditional roots and start painting on canvas, and having been painting digitally now, I have learned so much and have grown so much faster that I feel it was a great stepping stone to have learned my process and methods of how I approach my work.

As Da Vinci once said.. " Art is never finished.... only abandoned" ~David Boudreau
