Event Details

Explore Tranplant's mission is to increase informed transplant decision-making to promote the highest possible quality-of-life for  patients.  We educate medical professionals, patients, potential living donors and the public about transplant and living donation and improve access to transplant education to underserved communities.

This educational program was designed for nephrology nurses, administrators, social workers, dietitians, technicians, and other renal health care professionals who:

  • Provide kidney transplant education to patients and/or Wish to learn more about transplant as a treatment option for patients.


 Ø  To enhance dialysis providers’ transplant knowledge & experience delivering transplant education to patients.

 Ø  To assist providers in designing individualized transplant education plans that support the CMS ESRD Conditions for Coverage regarding transplant.

 Ø  To provide dialysis centers with Explore Transplant education materials for patients.

 Ø  To strengthen relationships between transplant and dialysis centers to facilitate transplantation.

Amy D. Waterman, PhD, Dr. Amy Waterman is a Social Psychologist with expertise in behavioral change, is Associate Professor of Medicine at Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis, MO, and serves as the Transplant Quality Manager for Barnes-Jewish Transplant Center.  She spends 100% of her time conducting research about patients’ transplant decision-making and designing health education to help kidney patients make informed transplant choices. She has been the Primary Investigator on 3 HRSA Social and Behavioral projects dealing with living donation. She has surveyed over 1000+ kidney donors and recipients in her career, and has published many research articles about deceased and living donation. Based on her research findings and the Transtheoretical Model of Behavioral Change, she created the Explore Transplant patient education program. She educates both patients and providers about the medical option of transplant. 



Christina Goalby, MSW,Christina joined Dr. Waterman’s research lab in 2008 and is the Explore Transplant Education Manager, Trainer and co-creator at Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis, MO.  She is a Nephrology Social Worker with over 15 years of experience and was previously the Divisional Lead social worker for DaVita’s Discovery Division serving the Midwest.  Christina is the recipient of the Council of Nephrology Social Work Award from Region 3 by her peers and is the Co-Chair of CNSW of Eastern MO & Metro East Chapter.

Dietitians: This program has been approved for 7 CPEUs by the Commission on Dietetic Registration.

Nurses/Techs:This activity has been submitted to the American Nephrology Nurses’ Association (ANNA) for approval to award 7 contact hours.  The American Nephrology Nurses’ Association (ANNA) is accredited as an approver of continuing nursing education by the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s Commission on Accreditation.

Social Workers:This program has been submitted to the California Board of Behavioral Sciences for approval to award 7 continuing education contact hours.  


No refunds will be given for cancellations for the Hawaiian Training after April 1.  Substitutions are welcome; however there will be no refunds for no-shows.



Business casual.  Meeting space environments vary. Western Pacific Renal Network, has no control over meeting space temperature. We suggest you bring a sweater or jacket to adjust in varying environments.
