Thank-you for registering for the Bay Area Teen Science Night at the Exploratorium happening on 11/13/13! We are so excited that you decided to join us for our big blow out event! We have been very busy to put this event together for you, and hope you enjoy it.
As the Program Manager, I would like to address some of the common questions I have been getting; those being if adults are allowed to attend the event, if so, how much they should pay to get in, and some of you would also like to know if they can bring other family members that are younger than the age group specified, or the event is intended for.
Let me first begin to answer the questions by saying that the reason that we are doing registration is to have a head count so we don't go over our projected capacity for the event. Second, we are working to make this event a safe, and enjoyable for everyone attending. With that in mind, I would like for all of you attending not between the ages of 13-19 to consider:
We don't want to discourage adult attendance with their teen group, and it is certainly understandable that adults want to attend with their teens for various reasons. However, we ask that you limit the amount of adults attending to a bare minimum, because with a cap on the event capacity, each adult with a ticket means there is a teen somewhere out there that can't have a ticket. The purpose of this event is for our collaboration of teen docent programs to engage their peers in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) activities in fun and creative ways outside of the classroom. For many teens in the bay area they rarely get an opportunity like this! It is one of our goals to show bay area teens that STEM topics can be not only educational, but they can also be fun, engaging, enjoyably thought provoking, and part of every day life all around them. So for family groups, we would like to ask for a limit of one adult per group. School and club groups should decide how many adults are appropriate, as each is required to have a decided ratio of adults to teens.
There is another reason that we chose to do pre-registration. This event is also staffed and programmed very specifically, not only for capacity, but also for the age group. Even though the venue is a family friendly place, this is not a family event. We are very sorry for any inconvenience this causes, however minors under the age of 13 years of age will not be granted entry-no exceptions! For this reason, we ask that each teen bring some sort of identification like a school ID to verify your age. If our ticket checkers, and/or security at the entry point are in question, they will be checking!
The good news is that there is no entry fee for any approved ticket holder age 13 and up. We want to ensure that regardless of finances, anyone that fits this criteria has access to the museum, demonstrations, and entertainment. (Though you should bring some cash for purchases such as loccers, or food).
*Finally, I would like to give a general disclaimer that this event is a drug, alcohol, and cigarette free event. Bags are subject to search by security, and those found or suspected of participating or carrying said substances will not be allowed to participate in the event. Furthermore, vandalism of property will not be tolerated, and may be subject to prosecution.*
With all that said, we sincerely hope you thoroughly enjoy our event, and we can't wait to see you! If you have any questions, concerns, or comments, feel free to contact me through explobats.eventbrite.com
