NEW YORK - Photographs by Thomas Hoepker
The German Consulate General Presents:
The bustling gateway to America, New York, has always been a city of dramatic excitement, big dreams and constant changes. Legendary photo journalist Thomas Hoepker has captured the city's complex spirit in all its moods, on and off, from 1960 until today. With journalistic zeal and an eye for lyrical, absurd or critical moments, he has depicted a true New York with its diverse inhabitants and the allure of prominent landmarks, as well as hidden, far-flung corners. Born in Munich,Germany, Hoepker has lived and worked in New York since 1976. He lives and works in Manhattan and in Southampton, Long Island. Hoepker is a member of the prestigious photo cooperative, Magnum, and has travelled the world as a photo-journalist and film maker for publication like Stern and Geo. A major photo book, New York, has been published this spring by teNeues Publishing Group in New York and Kempen, Germany.
The exhibition at the German Consulate will show large and medium sized photo prints, made by Hoepker in his studio in Southampton.
