Rickard Öberg, Jayway
He is working on Qi4j project, a Composite Oriented Programming framework implemented in Java for domain centric application development, including evolved concepts from AOP, DI and DDD which he cofounded with Niclas Hedhman.
Event Sourcing is a completely different way to handle
persistence than just having the current value of an object (state)
in a database. Event Sourcing means that you save all the events
that change an object's value (state) and that one can follow its
history of changes. Martin Fowler has described Event Sourcing in his
book on Enterprise Application Architecture.
In this seminar, Rickard will talk about how he used Event Sourcing in the StreamFlow of product that he works with and how it works together with other datasources. By Event Sourcing one has the ability to update multiple data sources and have a full opportunity to comply with any changes to a domain object. You can even purge the database with all values and completely recreate it by sequential play back all the content in the event log. The database becomes more of a cache of current values (state). Event source then provides an unprecedented opportunity to be able to handle more load on the system when the database is no longer becomes the natural bottleneck. Code samples will be in Java, but the principles are the same also. NET,Ruby, C + +, etc.
