Evening with the Experts is an event series designed to bring together big brands and startups, in one forum, to discuss relevant topics influencing the marketing community. Chris Young, Senior Director Global Menu Services, McDonald's
After building a career in product development and quality assurance with leading restaurant brands such as Domino’s, Pizza Hut and Boston Market, Chris started his tenure with McDonald’s in 1998. As a member of the U.S. Menu Management Group in Oak Brook, Chris was responsible for the introduction of numerous products including Fruit n Yogurt Parfait, Chicken Selects and the new Premium Chicken Sandwiches. Five years later, he began applying his specialized skills to McDonald’s International business working with AOW’s including Europe, Latin America and APMEA. This experience led him to relocate to France and Munich where, for almost four years, he guided the European Food Studio team and their product development efforts which included the launch of the “M” Burger. Chris ended his overseas adventure and returned to Oak Brook where he then took a temporary assignment leading the APMEA Food Studio in Hong Kong. He now resides back in Oak Brook as part of the Global Menu Strategy team leading the way in key system projects such as sodium and saturated fat reduction and leveraging resources globally for improving the food our customers feel good about eating.
Justin Massa, Founder and CEO, Food Genius
Justin’s work centers around new technologies, data, and food. He is the founder and CEO of Food Genius, an award winning technology company that provides big data to the food industry. Ingredient manufacturers, restaurant operators, foodservice distributors, and creative agencies use Food Genius’ data for everything from informing their innovation process to crafting best-in-class sales and marketing collateral. Food Genius was part of the Summer 2011 class of Excelerate Labs, was the first-ever “Startup in Residence” at IDEO‘s Chicago studio, and was the first company to “graduate” from 1871. In September 2012, Justin was named to the Crain’s Chicago Business Tech50 list.
Previously, Justin was the Director of Project and Grant Development at the Metro Chicago Information Center and a the co-founder and executive director of MoveSmart.org, an organization that connected housing seekers to neighborhoods of opportunity and diversity. From the spring of 2009 through February 2010 Justin was the Program and Technical Coordinator at NetSquared, where he managed internal communication and helped run innovation competitions. In 2009, he was named one of the “35 Under 35″ emerging civil rights leaders in Chicago by the Community Renewal Society.
Chicago AMA Evening With Experts series tackles relevant marketing issues, and features top marketing thought leaders who provide attendees actionable take-aways. This series is done in partnership with 1871, where digital start-ups get their start.
