John Lennon, musician, writer, poet and activist was taken from us on December 8, 1980. However, through his art and the hundreds of millions of lives he touched and transformed, he lives on.
On December 7, well-known TV, Film & Literary artists share stories, songs and performances in honor of the man and his wish that we "Imagine".

Attend this event to hear great spoken word performances celebrating John Lennon, meet the speakers and one another, share wine and snacks, and check out the Beyond Baroque Bookstore which contains many thousands of rare and hard to find works from leading Los Angeles Writers new and old.
Poetry in Motion often sells out and this time we’re scheduled for 8pm on a Saturday night. By buying a ticket rather than showing up at the door without one you’ll not only save $5, you’ll be sure of a good seat in the theater which may be standing room only.
Its best to arrive a bit early because we do tend to start on time. You'll find parking easy in the lots and streets behind and around Beyond Baroque.

Since 1988 Eve Brandstein's Poetry in Motion has been bringing leading actors, writers, directors, producers and musicians together in one of L.A.s longest running literary salons. Tickets are $15 if you order online and $20 at the door.

In addition to producing the Poetry in Motion series since 1988, Eve Brandstein is a published poet and has been a major studio and network executive as well as a tv producer, a film and theater director, writer/creator, and casting director.
She has recently been directing NY theater productions including,for this Fall season "Shut Up, Sit Down and Eat" at the Players Theater and "Saffron and Rosewater" at the 92nd St. Y.
Eve is also an artist, psychotherapist and teacher. This is the start of the 4th season at Beyond Baroque. Poetry in Motion is also now bi-coastal with season events in NY at the Cutting Room.

Steve Abee is a poet, teacher, (papa #9 English) husband of cat, father (ucla dad), ture son of the western sun; books the bus, great balls of flowers, johnny future; believe this: art is god is love.
Anne Beatts is a TV writer-producer who won two Emmys and four WGA Awards as a writer for "Saturday Night Live." Her other credits include “Square Pegs,” "A Different World," and “The Stephanie Miller Show.” She was the first woman Contributing Editor of the National Lampoon and both performed and wrote for the "National Lampoon Radio Hour." She co-edited the best-selling "Saturday Night Live,” "Titters: The First Collection of Humor by Women," and "Titters 101,” and co-authored "The Mom Book." She has written for Esquire, Playboy, Los Angeles Magazine, Vogue, Elle, and Salon.com, and contributed a weekly humor column to the Los Angeles Times. Her work has appeared on Broadway in "Gilda: Live" and the Tony-nominated "Leader of the Pack." She also teaches film and TV writing at Chapman University. She is currently working with Judy Belushi and Dan Aykroyd on a TV reboot of “The Blues Brothers” which was just optioned by Reunion Pictures. She has known and worked with Eve Brandstein for over 30 years.
Diane Sherry Case’s short fiction has been widely published in literary magazines and anthologies including American Fiction, Unnatural Disasters and Love Magick. Her novel Elephant Milk was published in 2011 and a feature film based on it, staring Sierra McCormick, is in development. With a degree in psychology and an MFA, she developed Write for Recovery, which she teaches both for UCLA and at the Writer’s Junction. She is also a private editor and teacher, helping writers to eliminate the frustration of writers block, as well as to structure and edit their manuscripts. As of the moment, she is awaiting news from HarperCollins regarding their interest in her new novel Earth to Skye. Highlights of her early life include meeting the Beatles, playing Lana Lang in Superman, and traveling with a Mexican circus.
Sandy Helbergwas one of the original Groundlings, Helberg and has been in numerous films, including three with Mel Brooks'. TV, "M*A*S*H", "Newhart", "The Jeffersons" and many more from the previous century. Among his comedy writing credits: Golden Girls, Dear John, Perfect Strangers, He is presently writing and performing his work on both coasts including improvsation with Helen Hunt, Jason Alexander, Helen Slater, etc. and his One Man Show “You Can Only Blame So Much On The Holocaust.” He is launching a new half hour comedy starring the delightful Jeff Goldblum in 2014.
Jon Hess is an awarding filmmaker, a writer and a teacher. He has directed a dozen films as including: WATCHERS for Universal Pictures from the novel by Dean R. Koontz and EXCESSIVE FORCE for New Line Cinema featuring James Earl Jones. Jon also developed and co-produced the controversial AMERICAN HISTORY X . He is currently writing a feature film called DEAD MEN FLOAT and editing a collection of short stories called FATHERLESS IN MANHATTAN.
Sally Kirkland Is a film, TV, and theater veteran since the 1960’s and is probably best known for the film “Anna” for which she garnered a Best Actress Oscar nomination and won the Best Actress Golden Globe, the Independent Spirit Award and the LA Film Critic’s Circle Award. Sally’s first director in 1964 was Andy Warhol in “13 Most Beautiful Women”. Her one hundred and twenty films also include: “The Sting,” The Way We Were,” “Coming Apart,” “Cold Feet,” “Best of the Best,” “Revenge,” “JFK”, ED TV, Bruce Almighty and Coffee Date”. Archaeology of a Woman,. She was nominated for Best Actress in the TV movie by the Hollywood Foreign Press for “The Haunted – A True Story,” Her television credits include; Felicity, Wasteland , Valley of the Dolls, Roseanne, Criminal Minds, Head Case, The Simple Life, Resurrection Blvd and also the TV movies: Another Woman’s Husband, Brave New World, Song Of Songs and The Woman Who Loved Elvis, Heatwave, and Days Of Our Lives. Sally is also an exhibited painter, poet, renowned acting coach and ordained minister.
Rex Weiner is Co-founder and publisher of the pioneering New York Ace newspaper (1972–73) and, according to his FBI file, a founding staffer of High Times magazine, Weiner began his writing career at the East Village Other, living on the Lower East Side, not far from Ginsberg’s pad. His articles have appeared in Vanity Fair, Los Angeles Times Sunday Magazine, The New Yorker, New York Observer and The Paris Review. His produced screenwriting credits include The Adventures of Ford Fairlane, based on his original stories and directed by Renny Harlin for 20th Century Fox. He was one of the first writers brought on board to launch the TV series Miami Vice. A veteran of the Poetry In Motion lineup since 1988, he is currently Hollywood correspondent for Rolling Stone Italia as well as West Coast Correspondent for the Jewish Daily Forward.
Gary Stockdale is a 2-time EMMY-nominated composer, who has composed music for television shows such as Sabrina, the Teenage Witch; To Tell the Truth; and Showtime’s Penn & Teller: BULLSHIT! Gary wrote music for THE ARISTOCRATS, Penn Jillette and Paul Provenza’s documentary about the world’s dirtiest joke. He frequently performs in comedy, spoken word, folk and acoustic clubs all over the West. For the 2013 Oscars, he backed-up Adele on Skyfall.
