For one very special night each month, Chef Katsuji Tanabe (www.mexikosher.com) has teamed up with a guest chef for an extraordinary private dining event - The Beverly Supper Club. A small group of thirty, food obsessed, kosher diners are treated to cuisines, flavors, textures... indeed, entire dining experiences that have previously been available to them only on television. Chef Tanabe invites a new chef each month that specializes in an authentic ethnic cuisine, whether Japanese, Korean, Spanish or Southern US. The visiting chef creates an exciting, multi course tasting menu, which Katsuji is then charged to prepare and cook in keeping with all Kosher laws and restriction. After creating the menu, the guest chef then becomes a “professional taster,” with the two experimenting, tweeking, and finessing, often for days and weeks, until the final product is as close to the authentic experience and flavor profiles as possible, while also adhering to the centuries old laws surrounding the procurement, production, preparation, cooking, and service of Kosher foods.
Following a recent media profile of The Beverly Supper Club, Chef Tanabe has been overwhelmed by guests requesting admittance to the group. This monthly foodie gathering, however, is a private organization (that will most decidedly NOT be accepting or inviting additional members). Therefore, Chef Tanabe and his guest chefs will begin recreating the Kosher Dining of The Beverly Supper Club, now humorously retitled ESTO ES REALMENTE REAL NO ES UN POP UP (This Is Really, Really Not A Pop Up).
The first ESTO ES REALMENTE REAL NO ES UN POP UP will feature the authentic cookery of Spain, with guest Chef Carmen Ruiz (www.espanolitafoods.com), at which Chef Ruiz plans to present an authentic expression of her homeland’s tapas and Paella. A popular fixture of the Studio City Farmer’s Market, Ruiz’ inspiration for the dinner “arrives via summers spent with my family in Mallorca, hosting dinner parties under the “parra” (grapevine canopy) of the family homestead.” Chef Ruiz’ KOSHER 14 course Spanish tasting menu, including unlimited Kosher Sangria and Spanish Red Wines, will (tentatively) include:
Aceitunas .Manzanilla seasoned olives
Almendras.Marcona almond fried with olive oil and sea salt
Tortilla de Patatas
Croquetas de Bacalao
Croquetas de Pollo
Escarola con Naranja
Espinacas a la Catalina
