This two-part workshop will provide insight into the needs of Beginning English Language Learners who have minimal first language literacy. The workshop will address such questions as: Where do you start? How are these learners' needs different? How can you create engaging activities when their skills are so minimal? The first session will provide a general overview and discuss effective curriculum and materials based on research from the field. The second session will focus on hands on activities, particularly those that include reading and writing for literacy level learners. You are welcome to attend one or both sessions.
