“Today we are setting a new strategy and vision to unleash the strength of our industries and the entrepreneurial talent and energy of our citizens.”
These were the words of Pat McCrory, North Carolina’s first Republican governor in 20 years, during his inaugural address on January 12, 2013. But what will be the tangible effects of this “new strategy and vision”? Already, the North Carolina Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) has released a new mission statement that touts the agency as “a resource of invaluable public assistance, rather than a bureaucratic obstacle of resistance.” This statement may signal a significant departure from the agency’s previous mission statement “to conserve and protect North Carolina’s natural resources and to maintain an environment of high quality by providing valuable services that consistently support and benefit the health and economic well-being of all citizens of our state.”
Join the Environmental Breakfast Club on March 5th to learn about the new management team at DENR, how the new administration has begun to affect the work of environmental professionals in the state, and how the past year’s regulatory changes (and additional changes to come) will impact your business.
