University of Phoenix Southern California Campus and Orange County SCORE Chapter will provide tips on starting or expanding your own business, network with like-minded go-getters and gain new tools to help propel your next ideas forward. At the end of the four-part webinar series, please join us for a workshop providing an opportunity for business plan reviews and pitches.

Start-up Essentials

The workshop will show you how to start and manage your business. Topics covered include selling techniques, targeted marketing, promotion, human resources issues, understanding financial statements, bookkeeping tips, the business plan, and legal issues. This workshop is designed to provide information for existing businesses that is equally valuable to prospective start-ups. Comprehensive, but easy-to-understand overview will help you get started on the right foot toward a successful business. Gain insight to legal, financing, marketing and other key factors.


Speaker bio


Jim Roberts retired from a long and successful career in the Financial Services industry in 2008. Having always enjoyed helping people, Jim joined Orange County SCORE and since that time has counseled nearly 600 small business owners, given numerous presentations to business and educational groups and designed several training programs to teach badly needed business skills.


Jim is qualified to counsel on numerous problems commonly faced by today’s businesses, including business planning, financial planning, budgeting and management, marketing and market research, sales, contract negotiation and administration, regulatory compliance, personnel mentoring and counseling, systems management, requirements documentation, application design and support, and training. Jim is also a sought-after speaker for business luncheons and dinners, presenting a variety of topics of interest to mixed audiences. Jim’s common sense approach to business issues and his ability to get quickly to the core of problems have made him a popular resource for business owners and professionals.
