Empire Presents "A Chef's Journey with Susur Lee"
Wednesday, May 1, 2013 from 7:00 PM to 10:00 PM (EDT)
Susur Lee, critically-acclaimed chef, Top Chef Masters sensation and owner of renowned restaurants all over the world, will join Big Night Entertainment Group’s Executive Chef Kevin Long in the Empire kitchen to create an unforgettable experience. On Wednesday, May 1, the pair of esteemed culinary wizards will co-host Empire’s second event of its visiting celebrity chef series. Hot off the success of BaoHaus owner and Executive Chef Eddie Huang’s appearance in the first of this series, Chef Long will continue to showcase his talents alongside some of today’s top chefs.
The $100 multi-course dinner will present guests with the unique opportunity to experience Lee and Long’s collaborative cuisine in a stylish setting. Combining Empire’s hip atmosphere and modern, regional Asian fare with Lee’s consuming passion to create tantalizing dishes, guests will be in for an unforgettable night. The “journey” will include special creations from the duo, such as Long’s Pi Dan Tofu on Spoons and Lee’s Roasted Scallop Thailandaise. Also featured during this elaborate meal will be a Cantonese Marinated Squab Breast. For only $140, a skillfully crafted wine pairing will compliment the courses, with options set to include Domaine Pesquie Rose, Lolo Albarino and Meiomi Pinot Noir.
We will also be offering a complimentary Uber (https://www.uber.com/cities/boston) car service to the event with every purchase of a ticket. Use promo code 'EMPIREBOSTON' to redeem!
From inauspicious beginnings as a 16-year-old apprentice at Hong Kong’s elegant Peninsula Hotel to his Atlas stride atop the fickle world of celebrity chefdom, Lee balances the epicurean traditions of China with the classical techniques of French cuisine, all while improvising a daring and original culinary aesthetic. In the spring of 2010, Lee became a media sensation on the Food Network’s popular hit series, TopChefMasters, by vanquishing 20 competitors while receiving the highest score in the show’s history on his way to the nail-biting finale against Marcus Samuelsson. His list of esteemed properties in Toronto includes Lee and Bent Restaurant, which he recently opened with his two sons in September of 2012. Lee realized one of his biggest ambitions in 2009 with the opening of Chinois by Susur in Singapore, where it operates alongside the establishments of Daniel Boulud, Pierre Boulez and Wolfgang Puck in one of the world’s leading gourmet destinations. He has held the coveted title of Executive Chef at New York City’s Shang in the Thompson LES hotel, as well as Donovan House’s Zentan in Washington DC. Widely praised from both critics and fellow chefs alike, he has been described as “a culinary genius” with food nothing short of “dazzling” by Zagat and an “improvisational artist” by Gourmet magazine. He was also named one of Food & Wine magazine’s “Top 10 Chefs of the Millennium” in 1998, and has been named a CAA-Four Diamond Award winner seven times.
