Course Details:

This course will provide an overview of key concepts of email marketing, with the goal of empowering participants with the tools and tips they need to implement or improve their email marketing strategy. During the course we will primarily utilize MailChimp* (mailchimp.com), however we can also discuss other email services providers depending on participants needs.

Expected Length: 3-4 Hours

Participants should have their own laptop, for hands on activities. It is also recommended that participants have a www.MailChimp.com account and a sample list of subscribers in a spreadsheet.


Hour 1: Developing Your Strategy and Growing Your List(s)

  • Staying CAN-SPAM Compliant

  • Managing and Growing Your List(s)

Hour 2: Implementing Your Strategy and Reaching Your Subscribers

  • Designing Your First Campaign

  • Setting Up A/B Tests

  • Understanding Segmentation

  • Testing and Scheduling Your Campaign

Hour 3: Data Analysis, Performance Improvements, and Other Helpful Tips

  • Comprehending Email Metrics

  • Iterating to Improve Campaign Performance

  • Using Merge Tags Effectively

  • Integrating with Other Services

  • Sending Transactional Email

About The Instructor:

Sean T. Walsh has extensive experience dealing with the intersection of community and technology. Prior to starting Crowd Communications Group, he was responsible for email marketing and digital communications for two medical education organizations. In his roles at these companies, Sean oversaw the marketing and delivery of hundreds of courses and managed complex email marketing strategies for various brands.

In 2012, Sean founded Crowd Communications Group to help organizations improve their digital strategies and grow their online communities. He consults on email marketing strategy and develops custom web solutions using the Drupal and WordPress content management systems.

Sean is an active member of the New Jersey Drupal and WordPress communities. He is always looking for new opportunities to learn about new technologies and share his experiences.
