If you want to know how something works, take it apart!
The world of electronics can seem mysterious, but it is all made up of little parts that can be understood one component at at time.
In this four hour class we will use small hand tools to dissasemble a variety of electronics and identify their components and learn what they do.
Students will work under close adult supervision to ensure that the work proceeds safely.
We will use this process of discovery to explain key concepts of electrical devices and develop a deeper understanding of how they work.
Students are asked to bring a small electronic device. These will be absolutely detroyed in class. Do not bring anything that you wish to retain.
Please do not bring old Televisions, anything with a Cathode Ray Tube (crt) or components that contain mercury, like flourescent tubes. We will screen all subject material and reject materials which are unsuitable on the grounds of safety or disposal.
We will be paying to recycle all subject materials, and dispose of non-recylable waste, please avoid bringing objects larger than an old dvd player.
All tools and required safety equipment will be supplied.
Class will be held inside a commercial art/metalworking studio. We will spend part of the class introducing the more interesting tools, including a cnc plasma cutter and cnc router and a demonstration of mig and tig welding.
