Welcome to a new training approach from Adrian Collaborative, LLC. In addition to our professional services in planning, project management, and community involvement, we have a corporate focus on research and education. The primary discussions, examples, and case studies will be based in Georgia and the Southeast. Not your typical training class, our approach combines informal lecture with many media examples, interactive group discussion, and hands-on group case studies with presentations. Our registration fee includes everything you need: a great training atmosphere, creative food choices, engaging discussions with colleagues, and extensive take-away materials that are formatted for practical use.
Topic: Effective NEPA/GEPA Approaches on Transportation Projects
The discipline of environmental impact assessment has many regulations, changing procedures, and project-specific conditions to understand and apply. Transportation projects have their own unique requirements under NEPA to obtain federal funding, while state-funded projects within Georgia have requirements under GEPA. This course is a high-energy, interactive course to covering the background and basics of NEPA, differences of GEPA, and effective approaches to be successful with analysis and documentation.
§ Overview of primary legislation, new policy, case law, and related state and federal laws
§ NEPA definitions, class of actions, coordination, analysis, and documentation
§ Overview of EIS procedures with concentration on CE and EA/FONSI as most common project types
§ Overview of Georgia DOT Environmental Procedures
§ Understanding of how to manage technical disciplines and findings for effective progress on NEPA/GEPA study
§ Administrative Record and other record-keeping and agency coordination requirements
§ Lessons learned and examples of streamlined and reader-friendly documents
In addition to covering main elements of each topic, we will divide into teams to undertake a case study. A fast-paced, interactive approach will keep you engaged through the 2-day course. Social media use is encouraged as long as it does not distract the class, and several exercises will use online access. Tweet any questions or project examples you have (@adrianplans #adrianNEPA), and we will try to cover all relevant topics and hold a twitter session of NEPA lessons learned at end of the day.
Certifications/Credit: GDOT Approved Environmental Training, 12 Professional Development Hours
Certification Maintenance (CM) credits may be available for this 2-day training session upon request from certified planners who have registered for the course. Please email us with your request and AICP certificaiton number. Adrian Collaborative is an approved CM Provider. More information about AICP’s CM program can be found at www.planning.org/cm.
When: Session begins at 9 AM; Doors open 8:30 with breakfast and coffee set-up; Ending each day at 4 PM.
Early Registration Cost: Private: $600 State/Federal Agency: $350 Including training materials, breakfast, lunch, snacks and beverages
Early Registration ends February 15; fee subject to 10% increase after that date.
Registration: Online payment options as well as checks. Seating limited to 20, divided by technical specialty for balanced teams on a case study exercise. A waiting list will be opened when registration reaches 90%. We will contact alternates in order on the waiting list if seats become available or schedule a new session and allow the waiting list to have priority registration.

Who: Lead instructor will be Todd A. Barker, AICP. Todd has worked in the consulting industry for 24 years, with most of his time focused on environmental and transportation planning. He has contributed to or led projects in 9 states, with an emphasis since 1999 in Georgia and the Southeast. In addition to conducting training for two state agencies, Todd has served as speaker and moderator at state and national conferences on planning topics.
