to honor

Edward C. Mohlenhoff

Ed Mohlenhoff grew up in Oyster Bay Cove and East Norwich, attended the public schools and graduated from Oyster Bay High School.  Ed went on to get his Bachelors Degree in Economics from Columbia University and his law degree from St. Johns Law School.  His deep family roots in Oyster Bay Cove, instilled in Ed at an early age the importance of recognizing the history and heritage of the Oyster Bay area.

In the past Ed has served on the board of the Oyster Bay Main Street Association and the Nassau County Chapter of the American Red Cross and was also the past Chairperson of the Tax Certiorari and Condemnation Committee of the Nassau County Bar Association. He has served as the President and Vice President of the Advisory Board of the Theodore Roosevelt Sanctuary and Audubon Center and has served as a Trustee of the Seawanhaka Corinthian Yacht Club.

Presently, Ed is with the law firm of Koeppel, Martone and Leistman, one of the leading firms in New York State practicing in the Tax Certiorari field of law, and before joining this firm he was a partner of the firm Siegel Fenchel and Peddy.  Ed was also employed as a Deputy County Attorney for the Nassau County Attorney’s Office for a few years before entering into private practice.

Previous to law school Ed worked for the Federal Reserve Bank ofNew York.   Besides his work in the very specialized field of  Tax Certiorari, Ed is presently the President of Youngs Memorial Cemetery (burial site of President Theodore Roosevelt), on the state board of Audubon New York, Treasurer of the Life Enrichment Center of Oyster Bay and on the board of the Oyster Bay Community Foundation.  His passion is for historic preservation and he has helped and backed many local projects that have saved or preserved our local history.

Ed currently lives in Oyster Bay Cove, New York, in the family compound known as Bakerhollow. The compound, now consisting of houses originally owned by Ed’s Great Great Grandparents, (Captain Edward and Sarah Baker),  was aptly named  many years ago after the Baker family,  that has lived at that same location for the past 130 (or more) years.
