Event Details

Detroit political and youth leaders will converge on Saturday, February 23, 2013 from 1-4PM for the “Edu-Tainment 101: Youth Violence and Prevention” town hall at the Charles H. Wright Museum to discuss problems and offer solutions surrounding the city’s growing youth crime rate. The event is free of charge and open to the public.

Hosted by the Detroit Hip Hop Caucus, participants include Wayne County Sheriff and Mayoral Candidate Benny Napoleon, WGPR HOT 107.5’s DJ BJ 3525, Denby High School Principal K.C. Wilbourn and other local change influencers including Detroit rapper Dusty McFly, Terrance Wheeler, Linda R. Parker, and Dewayne Jones. Additional participants will be announced.

Topics of discussion revolve around social and civic issues today’s youth are facing including rising homicide rates, negative social influences, internet bullying and other variations of youth intimidation and violence. The town hall will feature a panel discussion and audience Q&A to present solutions to implement in the community.

“The importance of this event is for us to take accountability in saving our community and neighborhoods while working to positively influence the lives of the city’s youth,” says LaRonn Harris, Detroit Hip Hop Caucus chair. “It’s our responsibility to step up and be the change we want to see.”

So come listen, share and engage with the Detroit Hip Hop Caucus and our special guests and the local community as we galvanize our thoughts to shape a better, safer future for Detroit youth.

See you there!
