London, United Kingdom
The female half of quirky, YouTube-loving indie pop duo Pomplamoose, singer / songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Nataly Dawn released her first collection of solo material, Her Earlier Stuff, in 2009. In 2011, she started a Kickstarter campaign to raise funds for a new album and met her goal in just three days. The resulting How I Knew Her – a heady blend of Regina Spektor and Rufus Wainwright-inspired chamber rock, blues, folk, jazz, and pop noir – arrived in early 2013.
Fresh off her tour with Ben Folds Five, and performing in Atlanta for the first time as a solo artist, Nataly Dawn brings her infectious, folky Americana sound to Red Light Café in celebration of her debut album's release.
Lauren O'Connell opens the show, performing her rootsy, indie-folk music with a voice that can only be described as an angelic child singing with bluegrass inflections, and a hint of whiskey at the back of the throat.
What the critics are saying about Nataly Dawn's How I Knew Her:
"Delicate and playful, Dawn balances childlike wonder with sly wit and subtle emotion, switching from deadpan folky narratives to archaic country rocking with an ease reminiscent of such Americana greats as Natalie Merchant and Kate McGarrigle."
- Daily Telegraph ★★★★☆
"Her echoey swamp sound emcompassing bottle neck guitars and cellos recalls the friendly/eerie seductions of Bobbie Gentry or Emmylou Harris’ Wrecking Ball."
- Mojo ★★★★☆
