charity:water is a non-profit organization committed to funding water projects in developing countries in need and sending 100% of all public donations directly to the field. The focus of the event is India, because some areas, including Orissa, still suffer from the effects of a caste system that was once very prevalent in the country. As a result, many men, women, and children of the lowest caste, the “untouchables”, are ostracized from their local communities and banned from clean water sources. They are forced to drink and bathe in bacteria-ridden water, which can lead to disease, dehydration, and even death. Beginning this September, charity:water is determined to raise two million dollars to fund water projects implemented by their partner in the field, Gram Vikas.
Eats for India hopes to raise a minimum of $10,000 by selling tickets and receiving online donations through my.charitywater.org/eatsforindia. We are very excited to host the event and hope you are able to join us in the celebration of food, fun, and India!
