Join us for a ride on the
EAST COAST GREENWAY
From Van Cortlandt Park, Bronx NY to Kensico Dam, Valhalla Westchester County NY
Sunday July 13, 2014 9:00 AM
START: Van Cortlandt Park entrance @ Broadway & 242nd St. (last stop on #1 subway train)
FINISH: Kensico Dam Park Valhalla, NY
Please join us for a 25-mile guided bike ride from Van Cortlandt Park in the Bronx to Kensico Dam Park in Valhalla Westchester County. The ride will proceed at an easy-going pace of 10 - 13 MPH.
We will explore existing off-road portions of the East Coast Greenway, including the Bronx River Greenway, the Bronx River Forest, Mosholu Greenway, and Van Cortlandt Park Greenway. There are also some on-road portions through Yonkers and Scarsdale. We expect to arrive at about 2:00 PM, at the Kensico Dam Park and Plaza. Read about the Kensico Dam here: http://parks.westchestergov.com/kensico-dam-plaza
There are places to eat and restrooms nearby. You're free to stay here as long as you like viewing the 300ft high Kensico Dam, the reservoir, and the view out over the valley. To return you may take your own path, or take the Metro-North train to Grand Central or Williams Bridge (and then ride back to the starting point). If you take the Metro-North, you will need a bike pass from the MTA ($5 at any manned ticket booth). http://www.mta.info/mnr/html/getaways/bikerule.htm
Please bring what you'll need such as water, snacks, a spare tire, and PLEASE wear a helmet. We usually ride rain or shine but if the weather is particularly unpleasant, you will receive a cancellation email at 7:00AM on the day of the ride.
RIDE LEADER: Anthony Savarese, volunteer for the East Coast Greenway Alliance. For more information, contact me at email@example.com
