Dúo del Sol - Tom Farrell, guitar & Javier Orman, violin - WAITLIST OPEN
Tuesday, December 3, 2013 from 6:30 PM to 7:30 PM (PST)
Please note that Back on the Beach Cafe closes at 3pm in the winter, and despite what Eventbrite says, you do not need to print out your ticket, just mention your last name when checking in.
Guitarist Tom Farrell and violinist Javier Orman of Dúo del Sol create original music, transfiguring music all along the classical/jazz/rock spectrum. They have been called “avant-sonic acrobats” by LA Weekly and that they “live in the land of exceptional genius” by I Am Entertainment Magazine. On stage, this firebrand duo takes no prisoners, harnessing the raw energy of a rock band by wildly stretching their instruments beyond any traditional limits, mixing and engineering their unique sounds like two mad scientists. Their instruments become irrelevant and what’s left is evocative, powerful music. They will be performing a program of highly energetic and emotionally charged original music from their new album ‘hello Kaleidoscope’.

Javier Orman - has been lauded as an “excellent musician, called for great things in his career” (Revista Sinfónica, Uruguay) and his performance on the violin called “exciting, vibrant” (La Industria, Peru) and “passionate, exuberant” (klassicaa.com). Born in Israel, Javier grew up in Montevideo, Uruguay, where he was introduced to the violin at an early age by Ludmilla Cavallaro. As a teenager, he played tango and rock & roll and trained in Venezuela's “El Sistema." Orman received his Master’s degree from the University of Michigan, where he studied with Yehonatan Berick. Before, he studied with Lee-Chin Siow at the College of Charleston, where he received numerous awards for his academic achievements in Music and Mathematics.
Tom Farrell strides effortlessly across the worlds of Classical, Contemporary and music of the globe. As conductor of the Los Angeles Electric 8, Tom launched the group on a successful East Coast tour in the spring of 2011 where they were greeted with great enthusiasm at the Strathmore Guitar Festival and received a Critic’s Pick in Time Out Magazine in New York City. Rising opportunities in Los Angeles have continued to evolve Tom into an extremely versatile guitar player and composer. In 2011, Tom co-founded Dúo Del Sol with violinist Javier Orman. Recently Tom recorded Hermano for the soundtrack of the Will Ferrell movie Casa de mi Padre.
