[GHETTO HOUSE NIGHT] [GHETTO.CHICAGO.HOUSE.JUKE.BMORE.TRAX]
DJ SLUGO - Dance Mania // Chicago
On Chicago's South Side, In the infamous "Robert Taylor Homes" a music pioneer was born... DJ Slugo (Thomas Kendricks) was influenced early on by his cousin, DJ Geno. Slugo began a journey that would lead him to become one of the original creators of a style of music that would soon become known as Ghetto House (Juke Music). Slugo approached the DJ at his high school dance & asked if he could spin a couple of tracks. Though the set only lasted a brief 15 minutes, it ignited a flame that burns brighter than ever today. By borrowing some equipment to produce mix tapes for his schoolmates, he eventually earned enough money to purchase his own equipment. Slugo honed his skills by working along side many of Chicago's local DJ heroes. He released his first professional mix tape "Ghetto Mix Part III", this tape landed in the hands of Ray Barney, CEO of one of the largest dance music labels in the world-- (Dance Mania). After hearing DJ Slugo's work Barney immediately offered Slugo a deal. This afforded Slugo the financial freedom he needed to form his own label, Subterranean Playhouse. During this time, friend & fellow producer Paul Johnson, introduced Slugo to a southern promoter which began his professional introduction into the rave scene. His unheard of Ghetto Style of mixing quickly made him a favorite to tens of thousands of party kids & promoters alike and provided him with a crossover into the mainstream marketplace. A friend & associate by the name of Lucky (Leroy Burton) took Slugo along to a recording session and introduced him to the CWAL Mob. This introduction led to the release of the popular "Cardboard Booty" mix CD which was called "the most influential ghetto house CD ever made" by London's Underbeat Magazine --who also went on to call DJ Slugo, "The Ghetto-Father of the American dance floor". This was the beginning of a beautiful relationship-- since that time he has released several other mix CD's with the CWAL Mob. In 2002 the streets saw the return of DJ Slugo to his roots with a new project which featured three local DJ's-- the series entitled "CWAL Ghetto DJ's" this proved to the masses that Ghetto House was still very much alive, exceeding the sales of all his previous works combined. Slugo calls this release, "without a doubt, his best work". His most recent affiliations with Super-Producer, the Legendary Traxster, insures Slugo a continued place at the top of his game. His latest release "Godzilla" has become a worldwide phenomenon. With the growing popularity of Ghetto House (Juke Music), Slugo's unique style is taking the world by storm, In his own words, Slugo says, "No matter what anyone out there may say or think, Ghetto will never die as long as DJ Slugo remains". The saga continues...
