Dream Big, Make It Happen welcomes participants from business, academia, government, and nonprofit organizations who are actively shaping the future of their communities. The conference will offer opportunities for attendees to network with peers and attend three sessions led by outstanding speakers, focused on strategy implementation.

Fake Work: Why people are working harder than ever but accomplishing less - Brent Peterson, The Work Itself Group

How many countless working hours have you spent on projects, proposals, paperwork, and meetings that felt useless or were ignored or dismissed? Hard work is not the same as real work. Half of the work we do consumes valuable time without strengthening the short- or long-term survival of the organization. In a word, it’s fake. Not only does fake work drain a company’s resources without improving its bottom line, it steals conviction, care, and positive morale from employees, and adds the burden of high turnover, communication breakdowns, and cultural patterns of poor productivity.

Motivating talent behind your organization’s vision - David McMonagle, PDI Ninth House

Motivating your work force, at all levels of the organization, is key to achieving your vision and strategy. Motivating your highest-level talent, your knowledge workers, is even more important and it is crucial for attracting talent in the future. This session talks about aligning your company goals with the personal and professional goals of your work force. With everyone on the same bus, the trip is much more productive and fun.

Engaging multiple stakeholders: Case of Greater MSP - Ted Mondale, Greater MSP

Greater MSP is a private-public partnership whose mission is to stimulate economic growth and prosperity in the Minneapolis-Saint Paul region. Its primary role is to be a value-added resource to all economic development organizations and activities throughout the region, with the goal of a brighter future for all residents. Greater MSP provides vision, strategy, resources, and staff support to link state and local governments and organizations involved with job creation, regional marketing, and business recruitment and retention. The task calls for tremendous leadership skills. Its goal is nothing less than creating Minnesota’s own economic future. This is a great example of making work real.

 

Speakers

We have the pleasure to welcome the following speakers:

Dr. Brent Peterson | Co-founder and Chair of The Work Itself Group

He has a wealth of corporate experience, holding positions such as: CEO of the Apollo Consulting Group; Senior Vice President for the FranklinCovey Company (where he directed their Center for Research and Assessment); Senior partner and founder of Organizational Associates; Senior consultant with Phoenix Associates of Tokyo, Japan, and H. B. Konsultation of Stockholm; and Director of the Professors Network of ASTD. He is a soughtafter and compelling keynote speaker, author, and advisor on strategy, alignment and execution as well as an advocate for education and training that makes a difference to people and organizations. Brent speaks and consults with companies and audiences around the world.

David McMonagle | PDI Ninth House

In his role as senior consultant in PDI’s Strategy Practice, David focuses on talent strategy, organizational design, functional strategy, and the transformation of functions within organizations. He is a key contributor to PDI’s research team working on the new vision and frameworks critical to advancing the roles functions perform. Dave applies these cutting-edge ideas in consulting engagements with regional, national, and global clients across all industry segments including consumer products, financial, insurance, hospitality, and manufacturing sectors. Prior to joining PDI in 2003, Dave worked at Texas A&M University designing, measuring, analyzing, and presenting research on the effectiveness of the university’s programs and departments. He was also an independent consultant designing productivity measurement systems. Before Texas A&M, Dave served in the U.S. Navy, working for the Naval Nuclear Propulsion Program. His duties included budgeting, contracting, and congressional liaison.

Ted Mondale | Vice President of Research and Strategy for Greater Minneapolis Saint Paul Regional Economic Development Partnership (Greater MSP)

GREATER MSP is a private-public partnership whose mission is to stimulate economic growth and prosperity in the Minneapolis Saint Paul region. Its primary role is to be a value-added resource to all economic development organizations and activities throughout the region, with the goal of a brighter future for all residents.

Mr. Mondale is also the Chair of the Metropolitan Sports Facilities Commission which manages the Hubert H. Humphrey Metrodome, current home of the Minnesota Vikings and host of many sporting events and family activities. In 1999, Mr. Mondale was appointed by then Governor Ventura as Chair of the Metropolitan Council, a 4,000 employee, $500 Million regional operating agency in the Twin Cities. Under his leadership, the Council undertook several key initiatives, including the Hiawatha light rail line, which was awarded the best new start award from the Federal Transit Administration. Mr. Mondale also served two terms in the Minnesota State Senate. Two laws he chief- authored have won national "best of" awards from the Ford Foundation and Harvard’s Kennedy School of Government, and the Environmental Protection Agency. Mr. Mondale currently serves on the boards of Housing Link, EarthClean Corp and the Advisory Board of ULI MN and the Friends of the the Mississippi River.

Conference Venue

The conference is organized by the graduate business programs at Argosy University, Twin Cities. The event will take place at Eagan Community Center and Argosy University, Twin Cities in Eagan,MN. Free parking is available at both buildings. The conference venue is conveniently located close to the airport, Mall of America, hotels and restaurants. Conference Fee and Registration

Early bird conference fee – available until March 14th – is $25. The regular fee, from March 15 to March 23rd, 2012, is $50. Box lunches can be pre-ordered online at registration. On-site lunch items will be available at Argosy University’s Café Commons. A 6%registration fee will be added to the conference fee. The fees can be paid online at registration.
