Comics are an expressive art form that relies on many forms of visual communication to narrate a story or an idea. Through the form of a folded mii-comic, students will have the opportunity to create an 8-page graphic narrative from start to finish and trade their work with the rest of the class. Students can also experiment with character building exercises, a variety of drawing tools, and our in-house photocopier. Students will leave with a master of their own finished comic, ready for duplication and distribution, a character card, as well as a class anthology.
Community workshops are an opportunity to get to meet the artists at Spudnik Press, preview what an upcoming class might be like, be exposed to new processes, and simply learn techniques and tips from professional artists to incorporate into your projects, what ever they may be. Workshops are hands-on, all ages (students under 16 should be accompanied by an adult), and for all experience levels.
The suggested donation is $10, or pay what you can. Fees are waived for students who are unable to afford this charge to ensure that the Chicago community has access to artistic projects, regardless of income. Registration is required to ensure we have the right amount of materials on hand. Email firstname.lastname@example.org with questions.
