Our Dr. Tim Townes played for cornerback for the University of Tennessee Volunteers from 1971-73. Dr. Tim Townes is tackling sickle cell anemia and other genetic diseases as a star researcher and professor at UAB. Townes's field is medical research, and he has more than excelled at it. He has an undergraduate degree, a master's degree in zoology and a Ph. D. in microbiology from Tennessee. He has studied and taught at the University of Cincinnati and at UAB where he currently serves as Chairman and Professor of Biochemistry and Molecular Genetics. After completing his graduate studies, he joined Dr. Jerry Lingrel's group at the University of Cincinnati, where he studied globins gene expression in goats and transgenic mice. The Birmingham Big Orange Club would like to welcome him to discuss his research.
