Dr. Ben S. Carson, author of America the Beautiful, shares insights from his incredible life journey to explore what is good about America and where we have gone astray.
Dr. Benjamin S. Carson Sr., MD., has been named by CNN and TIME magazine as the one of the nation’s 20 foremost physicians and scientists. He holds more than 60 honorary doctorate degrees and has received hundreds of awards and citations, including the 2006 Spingarn Medal – the highest honor given by the NAACP. In 2008, Dr. Carson was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom – the highest civilian honor given by the U.S. Government.
Growing up, Dr. Carson was challenged by Detroit poverty, poor grades and low self-esteem. Through it all, he dreamed of becoming a physician and was encouraged by his mother to read and accomplish great things. His inspirational story was depicted in the award-winning 2009 movie “Gifted Hands: The Ben Carson Story”, starring Cuba Gooding, Jr. as Carson.
Proceeds from the February 22 event will go to the Bootheel Scholarship Committee in partnership with The Restoration Center.
