Doctors Without Borders/Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) is an international medical humanitarian organization committed to bringing quality medical care to people in crisis regardless of race, religion, or political affiliation. MSF recruits both medical and non-medical aid workers to provide assistance in more than 60 countries to people whose survival is threatened by violence, neglect, or catastrophe, primarily due to armed conflict, epidemics, malnutrition, exclusion from health care, or natural disasters.
In any MSF project, provision of reproductive health care will very often be a component. In 2013 alone, MSF teams assisted in more than 185,000 births – births supported by midwives recruited from all over the world – including from the United States.
On Thursday, April 24, nurse-midwives and certified midwives are invited to join us for a LIVE teleconference and webinar dedicated to a discussion of employment opportunities for midwives with MSF. Learn more about how you can join MSF’s pool of dedicated midwives who provide reproductive and mother-child health care around the world every day.
Joining our recruiters will be Emily Sayers Slocum, a New York-based nurse-midwife and MSF aid worker, who will share stories and photos from her recent MSF assignment in the Democratic Republic of Congo.
The presentation will last 90 minutes, including Q&A.
This event is a LIVE teleconference and webinar.
You will call a toll-free number to hear the audio portion of the presentation over your phone (mobile or land line). The optional (but recommended) web component includes a PowerPoint slideshow and the opportunity to ask questions via live chat.
Registration is required and limited.
After you have registered you will receive an email confirmation that includes the phone number and password you'll need to join the teleconference and web component.
*Read the bio below to learn more about our midwife presenter, and please visit our website to review the requirements for joining our team and to view first-hand field accounts by fellow midwives.
Emily Sayers Slocum is a nurse-midwife and Doctors Without Borders/Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) aid worker from New York City. Inspired to become a midwife by her Peace Corps experience in Mali, Slocum went on to work for six years as a full-scope midwife in a hospital in the Bronx, NY, and from 2011-2012 she joined MSF for a six-month assignment in the Democratic Republic of Congo. Slocum is currently working full-time at Bellevue Hospital in Manhattan, and is looking forward to her next mission with MSF.
