Do the R.I.G.H.T. Thing

“Do the R.I.G.H.T. Thing” is a Behavior Support curriculum, developed by Developmental Disabilities of Clark County. This training provides tools for support staff working with individuals who exhibit maladaptive behaviors. The focus is on understanding the cause(s) of behavior, prevention & teaching techniques, knowing the least aversive option, and how to diffuse a crisis.

The three (3) “Do the R.I.G.H.T. Thing” modules must be taken in order.

· Intro (part 1)

· Core (part 2)

· Specialized (part 3)

Each module builds on the previous class. Participants will be responsible for keeping their handouts and documentation and bringing these to each class.   The Annual Review class is taken approximately one year after completing the Specialized Module. All three modules must be completed before taking the Annual Review class.

These classes require varying degrees of mobility and physical activity to demonstrate the skills. Please dress appropriately and be prepared to move and interact with other participants.  Your ability to participate may affect your receiving certification.  If you have any physical impairment or limitations that may prevent you from participating in any or all of the maneuvers, please notify us when you register. You should also communicate your ability level to the instructors  before the class begins.

Each module meets the requirement of 5123:2-9-30 HCBS waivers - homemaker/personal care for the topics of:

  • Provider’s role in providing behavior support
  • Positive Culture
  • Self-determination
